Hatha yoga is a slower-paced practice which involves holding the poses for longer, breathing into them. It is accessible for anyone new to yoga and allows the practised yogi to go in deeper as the body releases tension and the muscles and tissues relax.
Hatha is translated to mean sun (ha) and tha (moon)- giving focus on balancing both sides of the brain and body to able a better sense of well-being.
Yoga can help maintain and improve our physical balance, which is so important as we age. According to Age Uk there are 210,00 plus falls every year in the over 65's which require emergency hospital admissions in England.
Hatha is a perfect commentary style of yoga if you are following a more physical endurance plan or fitness regime. It can aid muscle repair, lactic acid build up and reduce the risk of injury. If you would like to go inward and enjoy a more holistic approach to your physical practice, this can also be useful.
