The Birth of The Happy Genie Yoga

A few people have asked me how I came up with my name for my yoga, so here goes.

In 2021, I decided I would delve deeper into yoga, not just the postures in an hour class, but explore the rich philosophy and history that a practice of 5,000 years (estimated) had to teach me.  I signed up with the Inner Healing School of Yoga, with the lovely David Cosserat, who has a wealth of knowledge and yoga experience, for a one-year yoga foundation course, which started early the following year. I regularly practised yoga with David, and I enjoyed how he weaved snippets of philosophy and ancient texts within our classes, but I was curious to find out more.

I had experienced a difficult period, a not-so-happy time; we had just come through the pandemic, and the world had been a scary place for a while. Joy, however, filled my heart as in July of 2021, I welcomed my first grandchild, Genie. Genie came at a perfect time; she brings light and love that I have never experienced before. Being a granny is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I am now the very proud granny of two beautiful little granddaughters.

I enjoyed the course so much that I went on to complete my 200-hour Teacher Training with The Inner Healing School of Yoga.  It seemed the obvious name for me – combining two things that changed my way of thinking and being. The Happy Genie Yoga was formed.
